Cornhole is a very simple game to play. You know what the rules are... throw a 1-pound bean bag into a 6-inch hole and you earn a score! You have to do this 21 times in order to win and, of course, you have to be the first to garner 21 shots into the “corn hole” to be proclaimed the winner. Very simple, isn’t it?
Thing is, even if cornhole is a very simple game, it can still be taken into different levels. It’s being recognized as a sort of a sport in several States. There are actually tournaments now in which you could join if you’re one who loves playing the cornhole game. This could be your way to fame and glory! Goofiness aside, yes, you could be famous in your own little when you join cornhole tournaments in your area and perhaps in other places too! To do that, you have to master the skills necessary in order to be able to win a good game of cornhole worthy of the tournaments.
The Right Throw in CornholeIf you think that simply throwing
cornhole bags into the hole is enough, think again! Just like darts, you have to be precise in order to make sure as much as possible that the bag is indeed going to go into the hole. To do that, you need to be able to develop the correct throwing skill if you want to have a fighting chance in cornhole tournaments that you are going to join in. So, what kind of throw do you have to learn to perform to up the chances of scoring as many goals as you could, and as fast as possible?
Most people tend to make the mistake of using a dart-like throw in cornhole. This is not the ideal throw to use in cornhole, because you will end up applying too much force. What happens that is that you’re throwing the bag way over the hole or causing it to bounce before it settles into the board after throwing. When you’re using official cornhole boards, it is likely to happen because the hole is located smack dab in the middle of the board. Unless you of course put the hole a bit higher that it is supposed to be, then you’re sure to hit a goal with a dart throw.
What you need to practice on is using an underhand throw. This uses significantly less force than a dart throw. An underhand throw is done by throwing the bag in a scooping motion that passes below you, and the bag is released as you complete the scooping motion upwards. While you may think that the underhand throw is more difficult to aim, it makes up for it by giving you the right force to ensure that your aim is true and on the mark.
Of course, in order to play a good game of cornhole, you must have the
best cornhole bags that you could use. Instead of making your own and fall short of the right weight for the bags, it is best to
buy cornhole bags that have been made to meet the weight requirements. You could easily buy those from the Internet.
